Veneto Windows
Tour through the poetics of Veneto’s dance companies at the desks curated by Carmelo A. Zapparrata
1585 in Vicenza marked the foundation of the Teatro Olimpico, designed by Andrea Palladio and completed by Vincenzo Scamozzi for the elite Accademia Olimpica, as the first permanent indoor theatre of the Modern Age, with the goal of highlighting the great cultural
value of theatre. 1637 in Venice marked the opening of the Teatro San Cassian, at the behest of the Trón family: it was the first ever public theatre dedicated to opera and dance, made to welcome paying spectators and making these works accessible outside courts and
encouraging the rise of performing arts professionals. Owner of these records, Veneto ever since the Renaissance has always shown its identity in all the fields of live performance, thanks to its special awareness and expertise that have always been preserved.
After its début at the previous edition in Cagliari, the ‘windows’ of the NID Platform have been changed and are now the Veneto Windows. Their goal is to offer a comprehensive overview of Veneto’s production companies, their take on contemporary dance and their
relationship with the local area they were born in. Within the framework of the 2024 Vicenza NID Platform, this guided tour of the dance companies present at the desks will include Compagnia Naturalis Labor, Ersiliadanza, Fabula Saltica and Zebra. This is truly a fascinating journey throughout Veneto, featuring videos and in-depth historical and poetical analyses, to show international professionals and other visitors the dance produced here.
